WHAT IS A TONGUE SCRAPER?
A tongue scraper, also known as a tongue tingler, is a long, thin, piece of (usually) metal that has been rounded into a "U" shape. Stainless steel, copper, and plastic are the most commonly used materials when it comes to tongue scrapers. While plastic is affordable and can be gentler on your tongue, steel or copper tend to be the more effective options.
WHEN TO USE A TONGUE SCRAPER?
You should scrape your tongue once a day, and most experts recommend that you do it after brushing either in the morning or evening.
HOW TO USE A TONGUE SCRAPER
- Stand in front of the mirror, open wide and stick your tongue out.
- Pinch the ends of the scraper so the round end fits onto your tongue.
- Start at the back and lightly scrape forwards (never do front to back).
- Gently touch the scraper to your tongue. Slowly pull it forward, toward the tip of your tongue.
- Clean after each use and repeat a couple of times to each area. It will only take a couple of minutes to complete.
- Wash scraper with soap and water and leave to dry out. If you are worried about gagging, we recommend you starting from the middle of your tongue and as you get used to use it you can gradually start working your way further back.
