Like nearly everybody, I was a little daunted to use a safety razor for the first time. They look pretty mean and I was worried about cutting myself by accident, but fear not, they are SO much easier to use than you would expect and definitely safe to use.
Draft: Your Zero Waste Shaving Questions Answered
I am asked a lot of questions about the safety razor so I've jotted the most common questions along with my answers here to help decide if Zero Waste shaving is for you. If you still have any questions, I'm always happy to answer and will try and help as much as I can.

Your Questions Answered
Is the shaver for ladies too?
Most definitely yes. The shaving kit is unisex.
Is the shaver safe to use on your underarms and bikini line?
Again, most definitely yes. It does take a little longer than usual but it works perfectly. Just remember to keep your razor at 30 degrees to your skin which means you have to manually move the shaver in comparison to a cartridge razor as they have a flexible head.
For men, it's great all over. My boyfriend Jason has a beard which he loves dearly so won't go anywhere near that but uses the razor on his neck.
Do you get a close shave?
Another yes! A closer shave than a cartridge razor, such as Venus or any other brand made from plastic.
Is it easy to cut yourself?
No. You'll be surprised that you can't even feel the razor blade when you use it. Let the weight of the razor do the job. Don't press or pull hard.
Why do you need a shaving brush?
You don't need a shaving brush however it really helps lather up the soap and apply it to the area in question. Remember to check out my video on Instagram and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well the soap lathers up. I also now really enjoy brushing it on and wouldn't apply without anymore.
Is the shaving brush made from Badger Hair?
This questions was actually asked only once but I thought it was rather comical since I was at a vegan fair. Anyway, they are most definitely not made from badger hair like some traditional brands. Yes that does mean they are synthetic and not a natural product like everything else on my site, however I will never ever stock products made from animal ingredients.
How do you change the blades?
With this particular razor, you unscrew the handle which dismantles the head into two so you can insert the blade. Simply put the head back together and screw the handle on. With some other safety razors you turn the handle and the head opens like a butterfly so you can insert the blade.
How long do the blades last?
A good (hairy) 5 shaves, so that's 10 shaves per blade as you can use both sides. You'll know when they need replacing as it will start to pull your hair.
When can I buy replacement blades?
I'm pleased to report that The Kind Store now stock replacement blades at £2 for 10no so her waste shaving has never been so affordable.
How do you dispose of the blades?
I collect mine in a left over tin (i.e. a baked bean tin, you get the gist). Once full (which will take a really really really long time), tape the lid back on and take it down to your local waste recycling centre and hand it over letting them know what is inside. You shouldn't put it in the kerbside recycling as there is a risk of harm to sorters or even animals rummaging through.

Let the weight of the razor do the work. There is no need to push down or pull hard. It doesn't even feel like the razor is working but it is.

Keep the razor somewhere dry between uses.

Remember to stock up on replacement blades.

Take your time with your first shave. You'll then see how easy it is to use and get quicker as you become more confident.
