Which Pair of Wuka Period Pants Are Right For Me?

Why choose reusable period pants in the first place? If you are on this page then you have probably already decided you want to make this eco-switch, but if you are still on the fence these scary facts certainly put into perspective why it is so important for yourself, our planet and the animals in this world to make that switch today!

The world cannot keep up with the amount of single use plastic that we use for a few hours and then chuck away. It can take up to 500 years for just one of your sanitary pads to decompose. Plus, an ordinary high street store bought sanitary pad can contain up to 90% plastic so not only is this terrible for the environment but can do so much harm to our skin.

So what do you think? Ready for us to simplify period pants and help you to find the perfect pair!

What are period pants?

Wuka period pants are the complete tampon and pad replacement. They look and feel like your regular underwear but they are leak-proof underwear. The gusset is just a bit thicker than your normal pants so you can bleed straight into them, and they won't leak through to your clothes. Just like tampons/pads you choose them based on your flow on each day: light, medium or heavy.

Period pants can be used for many purposes from periods to postpartum discharge, endometriosis flow and bladder leaks.

What do we stock?

For light flow

Ultimate Midi-Brief Period Pants, £23.99

These hold at least 7ml of period flow or light leaks / 1 tampons worth.

  • These period pants are part of the WUKA ULTIMATE collection, made from their most sustainable fabrics and constructed without compromise.
  • Made from a super absorbent hi-tech fabric Lenzing MicroModal. This fabric is amazing because it lowers fossil fuel consumption (much less than organic cotton); it is a carbon neutral fabric made in Austria; it is so soft it feels better than silk; and it absorbs more liquid at a faster rate than cotton.
  • Midi-Brief style - this gives you full coverage at the back without feeling bulky.

For medium flow

Ultimate Organic Cotton Bikini Period Pants, £19.99

These hold at least 15ml of period flow or light leaks / 2-3 tampons worth.

  • These period pants are part of the WUKA ULTIMATE collection, made from their most sustainable fabrics and constructed without compromise.
  • GOTs certified Organic Cotton. Organic meaning the cotton was grown without chemical pesticides, chemical fertiliser and GM seeds.
  • Bikini-style - soft and comfy.

Basics Cotton Hipster Period Pants, £12

These also hold at least 15ml of period flow or light leaks / 2-3 tampons worth.

  • The WUKA Basics are the same quality as the WUKA Ultimate range but these are made in higher volume and fewer styles, so WUKA can pass the savings onto you.
  • Made from BCI Certified Cotton. These WUKA Basics Hipster period pants are certified by the Better Cotton Initiative. The cotton they use is produced by farmers who care for the environment and minimise the negative effects of fertilisers and pesticides. They also care for the water, soil health and natural habitats, producing the most sustainable cotton for these pants as possible.
  • Hipster-style - they look and feel like your regular underwear, but have the power to absorb your period flow.

For heavy flow

Ultimate Midi-Brief Period Pants, £24.99

These hold at least 20ml of period flow or light leaks / 4 tampons worth.

Why we love them?

  • They are so soft and comfy against our skin that we forget we are wearing them.
  • They can be worn for up to 8hrs and so no more awkward trying to find a toilet when you need to change your tampon/pad, on a day out.
  • No waste, no plastic. Just wear, wash & reuse. We love how easy it is to go reusable and how good it makes us feel!
  • Also, although this is not a pair of period pants we can't help but mention one of our team favourites The Wuka Wearable Hot Water Bottle. You will wonder how you ever made it through a period without one.
  • We also love WUKA as a company too. They have been fighting a long battle with HMRC since the day they launched in the UK. The UK Government announced there will be no period tax on women’s sanitary products from Jan 2021 but has failed to acknowledge reusable period pants as a menstrual product. Take action by signing the petition here.

Plus, let's be honest do we really want to contribute to the 4.3 billion single-use sanitary products that the UK, alone, uses every year!

We hope this helps you to decipher the world of period pants, so you can pick the right ones for you. It's also helped us to organise and visualise them in our head better too.
